According to various studies, we spend too much time sitting in the Netherlands.
The Dutch are 'sitting champions' compared to other Europeans.
When you sit, you also put pressure on the limbs, especially the muscles in the lower body. This pressure cuts through your nerves and arteries, preventing blood from circulating properly. The muscles therefore have no blood supply, feel numb and can even swell. If we don't use our muscles, they also become weaker.
By exercising you stay soft and flexible and you are less likely to break bones. Exercise is good for your brain and memory. Exercising keeps you in shape and makes your muscles stronger.
Make exercise part of your working day. Instead of sitting for too long, alternate between standing or walking regularly to get your thighs active, as this reduces the risk of health problems. Stand every half hour and stretch your body for a short time.
